opportunities for local celebrity sightings

There seem to be a bunch of artists and performers in our little town. It would be great if they posted their events and schedules on this wiki. What do you think?

Nancy -- I think that's a wonderful idea. Ideally someone who's tuned in to that circuit would take the lead on this... (Do you know of any likely candidates to do this? :-) )

I've also considered having a local business section where businesses in our community could add a paragraph or page on their business... Either one of these will require a bit of outreach -- beyond the reach of TownTalk methinks, though I could be wrong!

Also, you may or may not be aware, there is a proposed merging of the Hyattsville and RP wikis in the works... When (I think that's when and not if) that happens, there should be more of a critical mass for a section such as you suggest -- within that we could of course keep our Riverdale Park identity in tact while recognizing and benefiting from the broader 'market' at the same time. --Dwight

Nancy, ditto what Dwight said about this being a great idea! There is a town arts list similar to TownTalk called TownArts, but I think there are only like 30 subscribers and I have no idea how many are actually performers/artists. The Gateway Arts District put out an artists directory, which includes maybe 10 or so artists from Riverdale Park. I've tried very minor efforts at outreach, but most folks seem to be a) to busy to think it's worthwhile; b) not computer savvy or into the online thing; c) hard to reach. I think maybe the first place to start would be to put together a directory of artists/performers and contact them about this (as well as inquire whether they know other artists/performers). I'm happy to take the lead on this--feel free to e-mail me (ignore the dashes m-m-o-l-i-n-o-5-4-at-h-o-t-m-a-i-l-dot-c-o-m). Happy Holidays! -marc molino Do you find this valuable?
