Dog Park?
I've been thinking about the few posts recently regarding the creation of a dog park. I would love to work on this if there are others interested. I would love to get it going. Someone, I'm sorry I can't remember who, mentioned the piece between the school and the bike/walking path. That would be great. Does anyone know off-hand who owns that property? City? Parks? Let me know if anyone else is interested in working on this.
Thanks!

Whole Foods
"What impact do you think it would have on M.O.M., GLUT, and the local farmer's markets?" I wouldn't think the effect on the RP Farmers Mkt of a WF would be much, really. WF certainly can't compete with our local farmers on freshness, and we do have some organic options at the FM for those adhering to that specifically. And I have to think that the the Cafritz development -- as currently envisioned by not yet zoned! -- would result in a marked increase in FM patrons, not decrease. We're talking about a major increase in the population of our little town here, with a direct connecting street into the market. I see boon, not bust.
As for the other stores, if we just for a minute fantasize that our online wiki poll is somehow a scientific sample, here's what we have: just under 50% of us who do shop for natural/health foods shop at MOMs. I think that has to hurt their business. Why would I drive 4 miles to MOMs (my trips to REI just aren't that frequent) when I could drive a couple of blocks or ride my bike up the trail to WF? (I think MOMs is a great store and has great prices and feels more like a coop even though its a for-profit.. but an unnecessary 4 miles is still an unnecessary 4 miles. Now I did see that the website for the new on-campus East Campus development (the clone of downtown Silver Spring which recently landed the Birchmere) lists MOMs as one of its desired patrons... So who knows in the long run! Only 12% of us say we now shop at GLUT; so whatever hurt they're gonna have won't come from RP, but from Hyattsville, Brentwood, etc, methinks. THe 33% of us who now shop regularly at WF will be saving tons of gas, which brings down our grocery bills too, by the way.
