Your Chance to Weigh In on the 2009 Maryland Transportation Plan

Got an opinion on any aspect of transportation in our area? The state
would like to hear what you've got to say.

Specifically, they're asking everyone to "take 10 minutes to complete
this survey. The answers you provide below will be used to shape the
State's 20-year vision for transportation in Maryland."

Here's our chance to let the state know we'd like more investment in
bike-and-pedestrian safe transportation, MARC rail, the Purple Line,
Metrorail and Metrobus, a friendlier, more attractive Route 1 --
whatever turns you on!

Mixed messages for bike-ped commuters

Parks & Planning finally gives in and agrees to install 350' of lights on the NW Branch Trail, adding that's all there is, don't expect any more

"None of the park paths in the Washington suburbs is designated as an official commuter trail, said officials who oversee trails, even though they acknowledge that bicyclists and pedestrians use them for that purpose....

"Brentwood Mayor Bettyjean Schmiedigen said commuters are getting mixed messages. They are urged to use public transportation or bicycles, she said, but they are not given adequate protection along trails.

'If those trails weren't put there for commuters to use, they shouldn't have been put there or they should be safe to use,' she said. 'It boggles my mind. We're telling people to take the bus or to walk but then to take their lives into their own hands. You can replace a light. You cannot replace a life.'"
